The electric output of power plants sometimes exceeds the rating electricity output, because the efficiency of power generation changes by seawater temperature.
In nuclear power plants, both boiling water reactor (BWR) and pressurized water reactor (PWR) generates electricity by turning a turbine by the steam, finally.
After having passed the turbine, the steam is cooled in the steam condenser and converted back to the water, and then the atmospheric pressure in the condenser becomes very low (almost a vacuum).
The atmospheric pressure in the condenser depends on the seawater temperature that cools the steam, and in winter, the pressure decreases in accordance with the seawater temperature, then the efficiency of the power generation is improved by the difference in pressure with the steam.
nbsp;In the power plant, while the nuclear reactor is operated to keep its heat output at the authorized rating level by the nuclear reactor setting permission (rating heat output-constant operation), in winter season, that efficiency of the electrical output is improved because of decreasing of seawater temperature, its electrical output exceeds the rating electrical output.
Therefore, displayed value of the electrical output sometimes exceeds 100%.
