Fukui Prefecture and nuclear power plant operators periodically collect samples of soil, rainwater, seawater, seabed soil, agricultural produce, marine produce, and other items in the vicinity of nuclear power facilities, and then measure the amount of radioactive substances they contain to confirm environmental safety.
The Fukui Prefectural Environmental Radiation Research and Monitoring Center’s Fukui Analytical Office measures these samples with precision instruments, such as germanium detectors capable of measuring extremely minute amounts of radiation.

Although there have been cases in the past in which these measurements have isolated radioactive substances emitted under the management of nuclear power plants within rainwater, seabed soil and other samples, it has been confirmed that the levels were extremely low and would have no effect on the safety of the surrounding environment.
